Having Feelings About Transit
Having Feelings About TransitA recent research paper has found a link between the aforementioned feelings and interest in streetcar named desire and age. Dr. Michael Coghlan, of Cambridge University, the author of the study, believes that young people have feelings about transit systems based on the experiences they have with public transportation systems. What has stood out to him as most interesting in the paper is how the feelings of the younger generation are linked to feelings about a number of urban centers across the country. People in the United States, he says, have such strong feelings about their cities that they form their own opinions about the importance of publicly funded public transportation systems. Not all of the participants knew that Dr. Coghlan was a sociologist, so some individuals were concerned about what the relationship would mean for the study's findings. However, those who did know about the underlying research seemed to have no problem with the relationsh ip itself. 'It's not surprising that it was important to participants who are very much interested in transit,' said Dr. Coghlan. 'These are young people who have never lived in an urban area and do not have any contact with public transportation.'The researcher was able to obtain contact information from three volunteers that were willing to be interviewed about the feeling they had about their city. One of the participants, a 21-year-old woman from Central Massachusetts, said, 'It's just, like, every day. It's not really a city, but it's, like, every day.'Other interviewees in the study had strong feelings about their city, but were not so familiar with it. One interviewee, who lives in New Hampshire, said that her feelings of the value of a transit system had changed over time.'I'm thinking more about my emotions when I'm driving rather than just the emotions of people who live there,' she said. She also mentioned that she was drawn to study urban centers when she was a child. 'I t's the place that you had to be to go to school. I was always going there and being like, 'Why are you even there?' I'm just curious.'The study had also found that emotions do not appear to be affected by the age of the person who is feeling them. No matter how old the participant was the emotional expressions of love for a subway system was the same as it was for the participants who were younger. Thus, the research suggests that feelings about urban areas, transit systems, and the surrounding community still influence feelings for the programs themselves. In addition to this, the study suggests that the ideas of various cities, even if the city is only recently formed, can affect a person's life in one way or another. Many people who live in cities develop positive feelings about it, Dr. Coghlan points out. For example, residents of the New York City subway system often express their excitement about the cars on the trains and how safe they are. This, in turn, results in friends, family, and co-workers having positive feelings about the subway system.

Top 9 Tips on Using Jake Brake
Top 9 Tips on Using Jake Brake Dave, long-time professional driver, writing for Smart-Trucking.com has some advice for drivers uncertain of when and whether to use their Jake brake. The Jake brake, named for the Jacobs engine company that popularized it, is an engine mechanism that opens exhaust valves and released compressed air in the cylinders to slow vehicles without use of the service brakes. Due to its loud roar, some highways bear signs saying ââ¬Å"No Jake!â⬠but when used judiciously, it can be tremendously helpful (though the debate is ongoing about which conditions merit its use). 1. Do not use the Jake in icy or slippery road conditions! Avoid using it when the truck is not going at a controlled speed, also.2. If you must use it, make sure your trailer is straight and lined up behind the cab to prevent jackknifing.3. Using the Jake properly on mountainous or hilly roads can save wear and tear on the brake pads and tires. Dave recommends using a gear low enough to let the jake to do 90% of the bra king when going down a steep grade.4. Check engine temperature and oil levels before using the Jake- it should be running at operating temperature and no colder, and the oil levels should not be low. Test your brake at the beginning of your trip.5. Operate the Jake in the shifting range, about 1100-1400 rpms, to protect the motor. Donââ¬â¢t use it when shifting; it may stall your truck.6. ââ¬Å"On a 3 position Jake, position 3 is strongest and used most often. Positions 1 2 are used in less than favorable road conditions.â⬠7. You can leave the Jake on at all times or turned on when necessary; if left on, it functions in a ââ¬Å"no fuel positionâ⬠- take your foot off the fuel to use it.8. The noise of the Jake should be an incentive to only use it when safety is of utmost importance.9. Follow the guidance of your CDL training instructor at all times, and keep these recommendations in mind!Best Practices for Using the Jake Brake

Job Interview Advice 9 Ways to Ruin a Job Interview
Job Interview Advice 9 Ways to Ruin a Job Interview Toward the end of last year, U.S. News World Report published an article by Rebecca Koenig entitled Job Interview Mistakes to Avoid. Ms. Koenig highlighted 25 job interview mistakes, and I was inspired to share some of them. Amongst the many blatant interview faux pas, you will find answering your cell phone during the interview, wearing overly casual clothing, and flirting with your interviewer. But its not just these obvious gaffes that will create problems for you with your potential next employer. Here are 9 of my favorite ways to ruin a job interview: 1. Be negative about anything or badmouth an old boss. Never say you didnââ¬â¢t like the kind of work you were doing at your prior job. If you didnââ¬â¢t like something before, the interviewer will assume you probably wonââ¬â¢t like the work at the next job either. If youââ¬â¢re asked specifically to name something you didnââ¬â¢t like, find something minor and emphasize what you learned and what you did like. As a side note, also do not act rude or say anything negative to the receptionist. How you treat everyone in the office is part of your interview and will be judged! 2. Be late. When it comes to job interviews, being on time is being late. I donââ¬â¢t care whether your car broke down or your subway stalled or your printer cut off part of the address of the firm. Plan to get to the interview an hour early and none of these events will make you late. And always have the employerââ¬â¢s phone number somewhere where you canââ¬â¢t possibly lose it so if anything does happen (despite your plan to get there an hour early) you can call as soon as you know there is a problem. 3. Question whether you want the job. The interview is not the place to have doubts! Fake it till you make it. After you get a job offer, worry about whether you want the job. If you express doubts even subtly during the interview, you can be sure you wonââ¬â¢t get the offer. 4. Apologize for any aspects of yourself or your life. Doubting yourself or any hints of low self-esteem will not help you in your interview. You are who you are and youââ¬â¢ve made the choices youââ¬â¢ve made. Be proud or at least accepting, state the facts as the facts and never apologize! 5. Fail to answer the questions. Too often, job candidates will follow the interviewerââ¬â¢s question with a stream of consciousness answer that does not answer the question that was asked. You might do this out of nervousness. So after each question, take a deep breath, repeat the question to yourself, and make sure you answer it ââ¬â clearly and concisely. This doesnââ¬â¢t mean you shouldnââ¬â¢t use the question to make points you want to make. If you can find a way to slip in a story that highlights your accomplishments, go ahead! Just make sure youââ¬â¢re addressing the topic the interviewer wants you to address. 6. Ask salary information. This is a big no-no! You will get your salary information after you get the offer! However, do be prepared with a strategy in case your interviewer brings up the topic. 7. Come unprepared. You absolutely must do your research before every job interview! If you dont look at the companyââ¬â¢s website, know the companyââ¬â¢s brand and values, and use Google to find out about any newsworthy events, you are not prepared. If you donââ¬â¢t do this research, the interviewer will wonder whether youââ¬â¢ll do your research on the job. A sure sign that you havenââ¬â¢t done your research is asking a question you could have known the answer to by reading a company website. So donââ¬â¢t mess this up! In addition to researching the company, research your interviewer. Know their LinkedIn profile top to bottom ââ¬â where theyââ¬â¢ve worked, what their interests are, and who your common connections are. Come prepared with questions and conversation topics! 8. Use casual/chatty language or get too personal. We all want to be friendly, but donââ¬â¢t get too buddy-buddy with your interviewer. You are interviewing as a professional and your demeanor will be judged. Exhibit the demeanor in an interview that you would exhibit in the office. 9. Lie. Iââ¬â¢d rather you make any of the other 7 mistakes listed in this article than mess up on this one. Even if youââ¬â¢re hired, when your lies are discovered you will be fired. What are your favorite interview stories? Please share your successes and bloopers below! A great resume and LinkedIn profile are key to landing any job interview. Evidence Based Practice Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words
Evidence Based Practice - Essay Example Part One Brief Background Diabetes mellitus is a health condition wherein the ââ¬Å"amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood is too highâ⬠(Diabetes UK, 2010, p. 3). When left untreated, diabetes is considered as a serious illness because it can trigger heart-related problems, stroke, kidney failure and/or blindness. Aside from the 500,000 undiagnosed individuals who are suspected to have diabetes, approximately 2.6 million people in UK were already diagnosed with diabetes back in 2009 (Diabetes UK, 2010, p. 4). This figure can double up to 4 million by 2025 (p. 4). Part of the duty and responsibility of the nurses is to deliver self-management education to diabetes patients (Chan and Zang, 2007). For this reason, nurses should know by heart the differences between the juvenile diabetes (type I) and the adult-onset diabetes (type II) on top of the diagnostic tests, importance of weight management, and other related healthcare management and treatment for this particular health disorder. Rationale for the Selection of this Topic Area As a diabetic educator and diabetes nurse, I used to work with diabetic patients. Since I work part time as a member of continuing nursing education in my region, I decided to conduct a systematic research study with regards to the nursesââ¬â¢ actual knowledge on diabetes mellitus. Search Process... According to Randolph (2009), the principle of inclusion and exclusion method is to segregate relevant journals from those that are irrelevant. In order to address the research questions highlighted in this study, the gathered journals were segregated using the inclusion and exclusion method depending on the degree of relevance of each study. As part of the research study inclusion, the gathered journals will be pre-screened based on the research method and the author(s)ââ¬â¢ research findings (Cronin, Ryan and Coughlan, 2008). To ensure the quality and relevance of the gathered journals with the chosen research topic, the gathered journals were critically appraised by using the guidelines specified under the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP). When critically appraising a peer-reviewed journal, it is important to take note whether or not the authors made a clear statement with regards to the aims of the research study. It is equally important to examine the research study ââ¬â¢s overall research design. For instance, was the researcher able to justify the research method used in the study or was the strategy used in recruiting the research survey participants appropriate to the aims of the study? (NHS, 2006). In this study, databases such as the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR), NCBI / PubMed, and Education Resources Information Centre (ERIC) will be used in search for electronically available peer-reviewed journals. According to Ely and Scott (2007), keyword searches are often used when gathering relevant literature. When making keyword and phrases search; Younger (2004) mentioned the importance of acknowledging the differences between the American and British English [cited in Cronin, Ryan and Coughlan, 2008]. With this in mind, the
